Nothing quite rivals the magnificent view as you enter through an impressive tree lined driveway to arrive at Cliveden House. You instantly feel like you have entered another world; a fairy tale world, deep in history and lust, yet immaculately presented, perfect for the 5* Hotel that it has now become.
This luxury setting was the scene for a couple’s 10 year wedding anniversary – the very same location where their wedding took place previously.
Hiring the hotel exclusively for the weekend gave their guests free reign over the enchanting gardens, sumptuous spa and pool; along with pre organised boat trips along the Thames on lovingly restored vintage launches.
As the guests checked into their breath-taking rooms and enjoyed the opulence around them, we busily transformed the André Garrett Restaurant into an elegant dining room with a rather unusual yet very glamorous theme: “Strictly Silver Screen” – combining the classic, decadent glamour of the Silver screen with the flamboyancy of Strictly Come Dancing.
At 19.30, the red carpet was rolled out for the arrival of the guests, donned in sequins and suits, furs and feathers. With a glass of champagne in hand, they were guided through to the terrace, overlooking the spectacular Parterre where the talented musical duo, “Verity and Violet”, dazzled the guests with their smooth sophisticated renditions of classical vintage inspired hits.
As the sun begun to set, creating a glorious orange glow across the facade of the building, guests moved inside for a very special dinner.
Tall slender glass vases with lovely textured arrangements in whites and champagnes with accents of black, dressed with suspended pearl strings and Swarovski crystals, sat upon round tables. These were dressed in a champagne Tudor cloth, with contrasting duck egg Tudor napkin and seat pads. To everyone’s surprise, the charming roaming musical act London Essentials burst through the doors, ensuring the guests were serenaded throughout dinner.
With dinner over and laughs a plenty, guests were ushered to the front of Cliveden House for another magical surprise; a fireworks display. Orchestrated to dramatic music (all chosen by the couple) – it really was a spectacular sight to behold, lighting up the grounds and architecture of Cliveden House.
One final surprise was still left for the lucky guests as they entered back into the House…
During Dinner, the Great Hall had been secretly transformed into a night club, complete with 8 piece band, day beds and a dance floor ready for some special guests.
Giovanni Pernice from Strictly Come Dancing, along with his wonderful dance partner, wowed everyone by emerging through the crowd to perform a selection of high energy dances including the Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble and a show stopping Jive. With quick costume changes galore and gleaming smiles seducing the crowd, this was not a performance that would be quickly forgotten by any of the guests.
Engulfed in the dark panelled Hall, among coats of armour; antique tapestries and oil paintings, the guests danced the night away in the footsteps of Britain’s most elite and scandalous high society that once trod these same floors. Who knows, perhaps Charlie Chaplin once also danced in the exact same spot? However, I bet he wasn’t offered steaming bacon butties at midnight!
