A Summer Wedding

About This Project

On a beautiful day in May, we created a wedding for a couple who wanted their guests to enjoy a rustic and relaxed day; but a day full of surprises.

The marquee build took just over two weeks, with the team erecting a huge, hipped end curved structure, which was large enough for 350 guests. The slope of the lawn in the client’s garden lent itself well to the multi-level tiers in the dining area and a glorious view down the hill to their lake.

The service was a beautiful traditional affair at the local Church, with the bride making her grand entrance through a tunnel of chrome lanterns with atmospheric flickering candles within. Following the Church service, the bride and groom exited through a tunnel of pink rose petals, and guests were treated to mini bottles of Lanson champagne to take aboard traditional Red London Buses, which transported them to the reception.

The bride wanted each element of her day to represent a special memory for her and her new husband. For the drinks reception, the Caribbean style and vibrancy oozed through the magical English country garden setting. Steel drummers welcomed guests from the buses into a stylish yet simple stretch tent. The Caribbean vibe was evident throughout; from the floral arrangements to the taste and presentation of the canapés. Following the drinks reception, guests were encouraged to make their way to the main marquee in a different part of the garden for the next part to the day.

With tables positioned on both levels of the dining tiers, the dramatic table centres created depth and a calming view for arriving guests reminiscent of the couple’s love of the South of France.

In the central lower section, birch trees stood in a circlet of fresh rosemary, which was filled with white and green flowers. On the upper tier, guests sat beneath a bespoke made pergola, which wrapped itself around the entire marquee. This was dressed with vines and seasonal foliages including Eucalyptus and ivy. Glass baubles containing ivory rose heads and distressed candle holders with flickering night lights, hung above the guests’ heads.

With a crisp white tablecloth and a rustic hessian runner adorning the tables, each guest’s napkin was dressed with a seagrass napkin ring dressed with fresh herbs – a perfect additional touch to set the scene.

As an unexpected treat for the couple, Added Dimension had arranged  for the fabulous Gypsy Queens to be flown over from the South of France that day to serenade the guests throughout the meal.  They instantly injected energy and fun into the marquee.

With a tear jerking speech and a throw of the bouquet, the end wall of the marquee dramatically lifted, revealing a hidden dance floor and band. With sexy, darker atmospheric lighting in the room, the couple performed a spectacular first dance swiftly joined by their guests to dance the night away.

Great music, a photo booth full of props and hats, a pick and mix sweetie store and late night mini pizzas kept everyone entertained throughout the evening.

The day came to a thrilling end with a tremendous fireworks show – exploding and bursting glitter filling the dark sky, all choreographed to the Bride and Groom’s favourite music. It certainly was a memorable and spectacular vision to end a beautiful day of celebrations!
